For 25 years, Gateway has been a pretty big deal in Calgary’s music scene.
What started as a venue at SAIT became a place where countless Calgary bands played their first big shows, where fans discovered new favorite artists, and where a whole lot of very good memories were made. Today, Gateway has evolved into an events promoter, but its role in Calgary’s live music community hasn’t changed.
X92.9 is proud to present and support Gateway’s 25th anniversary celebration, happening Friday, September 11 at The Palace Theatre.
And they’re throwing one hell of a party.
The night will feature performances from Dear Rouge, Royal Tusk, Scenic Route to Alaska, Jade Elephant, and Ten 02, bringing together some of the artists and sounds that have helped make Calgary’s music scene what it is.
And X92.9 will be there for the celebration, too. The X Crew will be on site throughout the night, with some of your favorite X92.9 personalities joining in on the party. So, if you see us, come say hi and maybe tell us your Gateway story while you’re at it.

Starting August 24, we’ll be accepting your best Gateway stories for a chance to win one of five special VIP prizes.
Your story can be about Gateway itself, the old SAIT venue, or any of the shows and experiences you’ve had along the way.
Maybe you saw your favorite band at Gateway. Maybe you played a show there. Maybe you met someone in the crowd who became a lifelong friend. Or maybe you have a completely unhinged story from a Gateway show that has somehow survived 15 years without making it onto the internet.
Whatever your Gateway story is, we want to hear it.
The five winners will score VIP passes for the anniversary celebration, including access to a VIP reception and a special pre-show featuring Kate Stevens, Brayden Bell, and Brett Cassidy before the main event gets underway.

You don’t have to wait for the story contest to get a shot at the VIP reception.
The reception has limited capacity, so the earlier you buy your ticket, the more weekly draws you’ll be eligible for.
A few things to know:
- Each winner receives access for themselves and one guest.
- There will be one complimentary beverage per winner.
- You must be 18+ to enter and win, and your guest must also be 18+.
- Only the purchaser/name on the ticket will be entered, so make sure the name on your ticket is up to date.
- One entry per person.
- Once you’re selected as a winner, your name will be removed from future draws.
And that’s not the only way to get in. Over the coming weeks, X92.9 will also be giving away a bunch of tickets to the September 11 celebration.
Gateway has been an important fixture in Calgary’s live music community for a quarter century. From its days as a venue at SAIT to its current role bringing shows and artists to Calgary, it has been part of countless nights that people around this city still talk about.
Now it’s time to celebrate all of it.
