Price of Nexus Trusted Traveler Program to Increase for the First Time in 20 Years

The Nexus trusted traveler program, renowned for its seamless border crossing benefits between Canada and the United States, is set to undergo a significant increase in cost. Beginning next month, the price for a five-year membership will surge from $50 to $120 US. This news has sparked concerns among frequent Canada-US travelers who rely on Nexus for expedited border checks, raising questions about the program’s affordability and accessibility.

However, according to a press release from the Canada Border Services Agency, the current price does not align with today’s economic climate.

The current fee, set over 20 years ago, no longer covers the cost of the program. The new fee would reflect more accurately the cost of administrating the program and the investment required for future program improvements, including technology and infrastructure enhancements. This would work out to US$24 per year for the 5-year membership.

The price change will be in effect by October 1st, 2024.
