Josh Homme started the Desert Sessions back in ’97 as an improve music project of sorts. The idea was to get musicians, put them in the desert together, and start collaborating. These 2 sessions, 8 tracks in total, feature artists like Mike Kerr of Royal Blood, Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top, Les Claypool, Scissor Sisters, and more. Oh and Matt Berry!!! Not from X…but the comedian/musician Matt Berry…unfortunately! These sessions haven’t happened in 16 years. But not due to Josh Homme not trying – they can really only do the sessions in November or December or else the desert is too hot. On top of that, artists have tours, album recording, and life commitments, so the timing for the sessions just hadn’t worked out.
