If it’s not too early for ye all, I would like to raise a glass of Blanton’s Gold Edition bourbon… the finest American whisky available in Canada… to Conservative Senator Pierre-Hugues Boisvenu.

He’s the guy who came up with the innovative way of saving us all a boat load of money by leaving a rope in the prison cells of Canada’s worst offenders.

What??!!??! Was that a call for the death penalty? Was that a heartless conservative singing out his bloodlust? If our “every sperm is beautiful” lefty national news is to be believed… yes it was.

But there’s so much behind the headlines here…

Here’s the thing…

First off… yeah, I like the death penalty. Anybody who calls it barbaric… well, ok. But so is raping and killing about a dozen youngsters. So, I’m down with a little state sanctioned Conan vs. Clifford.

Second… Somebody asked the senator for his thoughts on the death penalty. What did they expect the guy to say. After all, his daughter Julie was raped and killed a decade ago. So… he probably doesn’t have a deep well of sympathy for Canada’s worst offenders.

Third… the guy said he opposes the death penalty, but thinks we should let unrehabilitatable inmates decide for themselves how they’re going to die in prison. Hence, the rope…

The PM defended the comments and rightfully so.I think this one is almost under the rug, but for those of you who scoff at the many of us who’d like to have an electric chair, or in the case of the Shafia family, an electric couch… could you please explain to me how hooking Paul Bernardo up with three squares a day and regular conjugal visits is any more appetizing?
