The World’s Worst Sports Show

I’ve had several listeners tell me that I’m the worlds worst sports guy, so I’m kicking off a new program on NBTV called the World’s Worst Sports Show.

In it, I ramble about (very poorly) about sports that I don’t really know that much about. This week I’m talking about the fact that I don’t have an NFL team to root for, so I’m setting up a pool system to pick a team FOR LIFE.

So out of the 32 teams in the NFL, I’ve eliminated 6 already:

Dallas Cowboys

Cincinatti Bengals

Indianapolis Colts

New England Patriots

New Orleans Saints

Oakland Raiders

Here’s the rules: It’s my pool, so it’s my rules. A team does not have to win over another opponent for me to pick them to advance to the next round. However the NFL schedule will determine match ups, so every week the list of teams remaining will be halved. Anything can determine a team I like over another, be it colors, personalities, style of play, location, history or actual play on the field.

X’s Guide to School Survival Pt. 2

As promised, here’s the second part in our series, X’s Guide to School Survival.

In this episode we explore the wonderful world of post-secondary sexual health, because we all know how important having sex is.

And from what I’m told, health is pretty key too.

For some credible advice (instead of your Mom’s fairytale version of the birds and the bees), I enlisted the help of Sexpert and Sexologist, Dr. Brian Parker from ForeverPleasure.com.

Feel special kids, his education probably cost a lot and he’s basically throwing free knowledge at you.

Every Student Should Own…

There are some things in life you just can’t live without…water, music, food, air… then there are those other things you could live without, you just shouldn’t, especially when you’re a first time student.

For all you post-secondary school kids out there I’ve compiled a list of things that will help you get through college, hopefully without losing your hair or mind, although I can’t promise anything.

In no particular order, here they are:

Wake Up Or I Will Kill You

1) Alarm Clock:

Why?

Because the most successful people you will meet in life are rarely late AND because everyone hates the a**hole that rolls into class just after the teacher starts talking.

2) Dayplanner:

This Is Actually My Planner

Why?

Whether you use a pen and paper or your smart phone to map out your schedule, an agenda planner is key if you want to keep on top of assignments, classes and extra curricular activities.

3) Credit Card:

Why?

Use Only In Emergencies You Will

Because when you’re a student there are bound to be unforseen costs arising and it’s always good to have a back up plan. Also, being responsible with a credit card can build your credit which is good if you ever want to be an adult and buy a house.

4) Coffee Maker:

Just In Case You Don't Know What One Looks Like

Why?

Trust me, there will be many a late night followed by an even earlier morning during your time at school, and waking up to a steaming hot cup of java will help get you going. As an added bonus, instead of spending $2 a cup, brewing your own coffee will help you save money!

5) Computer:

Let's Not Kid Ourselves, We All Know What You're Using The Computer For

Why?

Besides using it for school work, having a computer will help you pass away your down time when you don’t have enough money to enjoy the finer things in life. With the internet, you can watch T.V., listen to music, play video games or chat with other hurtin’ units who can’t afford to go out on a Saturday night.

6) Cleaning Supplies:

This Is What Cleaning Supplies Look Like

Why:

Because you have to clean on occasion and having a mop, broom and some kind of cleaning agent will help you with that.

7) Piggy Bank:

Pretty Self Explanatory

Why?

Because when you’re poor, every penny counts.

8 ) Condoms:

Or You Can Do This With Your Condom

Why?

Doesn’t matter if you’re a chick or a dude, carrying a rubber is ALWAYS a good idea in college. Whether you plan on getting it on or not, you can save yourself from having to make an embarrassing trip to the campus clinic for penicillin just by packing one around.

9) Cookbook:

Quick. Cheap. Easy. Just the Way We Like It

Why?

Because when you’re living off Kraft Dinner there are going to be times you just want something that doesn’t come out of a box. Luckily for you, there are tons of cookbooks especially for college students on a budget.

10) A Shiny New Outfit:

Check Out These Spiffy New Outfits. Jealous?

Why?

It may sound trivial, but dressing to impress will go a long way for your self-confidence. When you look good, you feel good, and having a healthy self-esteem is always never a bad thing.

X’s Guide to School Survival Pt. 1

It’s the first day of school for University and College kids across the province which prompted me to say “Hey! It’s the first day of school for University and College kids!” followed by “We should do a story about going back to school.” Then NB was all like “DO IT!” and I was all like “I’M GONNA!” So here it goes.

This will be the first piece of a 3 part series called, X’s Guide to School Survival, where I, Char the Intern, along with guests, will fill all you first time post-secondary kids in on the things every student NEEDS TO KNOW about surviving the big show that is College/University.

Today I spoke with Courtney Garlough, Student Executive Council President at SAIT Polytechnic, to get some advice on how to make the best out of your school experience.

X92.9’s Special Cameo In the New Billy Talent Video

Sometimes you have to toot your own horn a little. And today I’m going to do just that.

Most people think of radio station as being a locally based media. And for the most part, that’s true. Our ultimate goal at X92.9 is to play the music and talk about stuff that you guys want to hear.

However, sometimes you need someone to rise up above your city and in this case, the world.

What am I talking about? I’m talking about X92.9’s stellar cameo appearance in the new Billy Talent video. Well, it’s not like the station is in the video, but more like Project Punk host/ creative director Darren Ollinger.

This summer he represented X at a huge summer concert series in Quebec City and part of the pre-show festivities included a press conference with Billy Talent. And when it came time to cut the video, well, the editor clearly knew he’d be showing Billy Talent holds a lot of weight if the mighty D.O. made an appearance. Check out the video at 1.25:
