Yesterday, we received an email from a woman telling us about a man named Kim Degagne who operates a Christmas tree lot in Mckenzie Towne. She informed us he has an aggressive form of bone and blood cancer and didn’t turn much profit during last year’s holiday season.
We posted this story across our social media platforms, hoping to direct more traffic to his lot.
As of right now, it’s been 24 hours and the post has been shared over 15,000 times and seen by almost a million people on our Facebook page alone. We’ve seen it spread to Reddit, various Calgary-based Instagram accounts, and even some of our rival radio stations.
At a time when the news has been filled with anger and hate, this story cut through and showed the willingness of Calgarians to rally around one of our own.
We will update when and if we hear how his sales are going this season. There’s also a GoFundMe page set up by his daughter, so if you’d like to donate that way, please click: https://www.gofundme.com/m9yyxvck
Thanks to everyone who shared his story and hit up his lot! -Beckler & Seanna
