On Thursday if you were in downtown Calgary you may have noticed that everyone’s favourite ride sharing app Uber was back up and running! Unfortunately this isn’t a permanent thing. They were open for 4 hours for a stunt they called “Uber Pitch” where individuals could call an Uber and when it arrived they would have the chance to go on a 15 minute ride with an Uber investor to pitch a business idea.
Cool idea? Absolutely. Let’s give credit where credit is due. Possibly an attempt to win back the public after they refused to launch with the new ride sharing by-laws put in place by the city? Probably.
Uber still claims it can’t operate in Calgary due to the by-laws. By-laws which are fairly middle of the pack when it comes to other cities where Uber operates. They are playing hardball with the city and honestly at this point as much as I want Uber to come to Calgary, I don’t think the city should back down. The rules are reasonable.
That’s why we pitched our own business called Uber Reasonable! Check out the video:
-An annual driver fee of $220
-An annual vehicle inspection
-Proper insurance and licensing as designated by the province
-A criminal background check
Uber, this all just seems so reasonable.
